Electric Bicycle Hire On Islay
Bicycle hire is easy with our fleet of e-bikes from quality manufacturers, Scott and Bergamont. These bikes feature state-of-the-art technology and are a great choice for bicycle travellers who need to go further. The perfect way to visit Islay’s world-famous Distilleries.
All of our bikes offer a comfortable easy entry step-through frame. They’re the choice for people who want to feel more confident while slipping off the saddle when coming to rest. This way the rider can plant both feet firmly on the ground!
All the benefits of e-bikes transferred perfectly into touring, but there is one in particular that stands proud: If you drive less, you’ll see more. We are very fortunate in Port Ellen to be at the beginning of the three Distillery path (soon to be four) https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/islay-jura/three-distilleries.shtml also on the same path at approx (7 miles) from Port Ellen is Kildalton High Cross and Old Parish Church https://www.islayinfo.com/islay_kildalton_cross.html
Are you afraid of that steep hill? Do you think the mileage is too much for you? Although you still have to pedal the e-bike drive provides a nice boost for your efforts. They go up to 15mph and are a solid help on the climbs to increase your average speed. Pedal-assist bikes give you a constant nudge on your ride and conform to your pedal cadence and torque. When your pedal pressure increases to get up a hill so does the amount of power the motor outputs. Less effort on your part translates to less power assist.
These bikes come with gears that operate in the same way as regular hybrid bikes. They feature a 9-speed drivetrain with gear ratios that are very similar to what you’d find on a mountain bike, which means you have a great range for climbing.
Operating range depends on many factors such as the assistance level, gear changing behaviour, route profile, headwind, and temperature, but in general, the average range of our battery packs is up to around 30-50 miles.
If you don’t already own an e-bike, touring may also serve as an ideal introduction to the world of the electric bike. What better way to try out an electric bike than to enjoy some of Islay’s best scenery at the same time? Whether you want to be able to travel further to see more, or just experience the exhilaration a hill-top view offers but without needing to sit down first, then an e-bike offers a completely different experience to the car.
Riding an electric bike is easy and we will offer you instruction when you arrive.
